October 27th - Lake Park

During trek02, the place I recall the most is when I entered Lake Park. It was a brisk and sunny, fall day. I found it beautiful because of all the fall colors. There were reds, oranges, greens, browns, and many more. It felt alive to me and I loved recording it. Since I was a little kid, I loved the smell of fall. That is all I smelt when I was out in Lake Park. Having the sun out made it even better. You would have a brisk wind, but the sun would warm your face. It was also nice to record it through the trees. When we walked down into the ravine, I felt like I stepped out of reality and into another world. My buddy and I ran into these two hippies and they asked what we were doing. It felt nice to say I was working on a film project. My favorite clip to record during the time I spent in Lake Park was the frozen puddle clip. I felt I was really pulling images out of this clip. When recording I saw the puddle and frozen leaves in the puddle. But if you would look closer you could see the reflection of the trees and sun. I felt every second I recorded, something new would come into the frame. Overall I liked this trek the most and I like the results of my footage that I saw on my computer. I wonder what the hippies thought when I told them I was a film major?

Hi Bryan,

First off, I love the unique placement of the the Lake Park; moments away from Lake Michigan and beautiful scenic drives through ritzy neighborhoods. I to enjoy the fall and all it's colors and smells. I am curious if you have grown up in Wisconsin your whole life or if you have recently moved here for school. It sounds as though you have some knowledge of the area. To gain more knowledge about the park system and other interesting facts about the park here is a website that I know of dealing with the history of Lake Park http://www.lakeparkfriends.org/history.shtml
I know what you mean when you say that you stumbled upon some hippies to, that's really funny. It seems that you are really interested in the history and geography of the Park, and that would be good to harness and mold into an awesome project on the park. Milwaukee is steeped in tradition and the way in which it chooses its parks deals with that history. Maybe you could find out what animals are around this area, since it is so close to the lake, there maybe some interesting animals that live at Lake Park. The best visual that I got from your journal dealt with the idea of the wind through the trees and the sun shining through. It would be a peaceful, reflective piece that could almost be done with a reverance like a Gus Van Sant film. I think that would be really beautiful, to go from early morning till noon time when the sun is it's brightest. The wind would tell us that it is really freakin' cold outside, but the sun's rays would give us this warmth that, if captured right could be an amazing presentation on being reflective.
